LEVELS OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT SCALE
0 Death
20 Shame
Shame is just one step above death. Shame is an inward implosion, like light disappearing into a black hole, a denial of life force. An unworthiness to exist, linked to a vague, unconscious feeling state that something has happened to you that shows your lack of a right to life.
It is linked to primal belief that this unknown impact was deserved. It brings on depression, self-sabotage, and other self-destructive patterns, even life-threatening disease as the implosion robs the body/mind of life. The idea or belief that you are inheritently unlovable, invaluable, imperfect and insignificant. Sexual, emotional, physical abuse, ridicule and humiliation has often been experienced and is still stored in the body mind. Shame brings on depression, self-destructive patterns, suicidal intentions and life-threatening disease. It is the feeling of worthlessness and a life view of misery and deep despair.
.
30 Guilt
Guilt is perceiving that you are inherently bad or wrong, feeling that you have committed evil or sin and deserve to be punished. They blame themselves, or others, for their misfortunes and believe that they do not deserve the greater things in life.
Guilt resides deep within the subconscious and if left unhealed can imprison one in deep depression, remorse, pain and suffering resulting in a morbid life view. Not wanting to be in this world, or even in the body, is often associated with guilt. One remains crippled and un-grounded, with deep inner judgments often leading to self-punishment, or punishing behaviors projected onto others.
50 Apathy
Apathy is the feeling of hopelessness, emptiness, victim hood, and deep despair. One lacks energy, drive and enthusiasm to participate in life. This results in the belief that they cannot achieve, move forward or gain control of their lives. It is helplessness, sloth, darkness and melancholy, with a total lack of interest and motivation to embrace life and live.
75 Grief
Grief is a deep sadness and anguish; an inherent sense of loss, separation and abandonment. It is a deflation and collapse of energy, and an inability to receive life’s blessings. One can be stuck in grief perpetually regretting perceived mistakes, wrong doings, of loss from the past. Often one is past-oriented, and totally misses the opportunity or happiness of the present moment.
100 Fear
Fear is what cripples, debilitates and keeps one locked in limitation. The inability to rise above or move forward comes from the sense that life is harmful, scary, dangerous or threatening. It is perceiving that life or people can control, hurt, destroy, condemn or judge you, causing you suffering and pain.
Anxiety is experienced as the body-mind is constantly cautious and distrusting, ready to fight or flee from perceived danger. Fear keeps one stuck in a confined life-view, causing frustration, agitation and disempowerment. Fear is seeing the world as dangerous and unsafe. You become paranoid, and trapped for a long time, such as in an abusive relationship.
125 Lust
Addiction, craving, and lust for money, approval, power, fame, sex, and anything of the appearance. Rampant greed, soul less capitalism, blind consumerism, and total materialism. Lust is born from the desire to fulfill oneself. The constant need to consume and ‘get’, can drive one into manic addictions and destructive cravings. One is ruled by their ‘wants’ and desires and are held captive by these forces that seem stronger than your will and power. It is enslavement, and one neither wants, or sees, any means of rising beyond it.
150 Anger
Frustration, often from not having your desires met at the lower levels. This level can spur you to action at higher levels, or it can keep you stuck in hatred. Anger is fueled by conflict, rage, or fury at oneself or others. It is a build up of intense energy and frustration that is unable to be expressed constructively. It can be a seething burning irritation that eats you up from the inside, with you denying the anger that has built up inside you for years.
175 Pride
The first level where your ego starts to feel good dependent on external circumstances, such as looks, money, status, car, etc. Pride here is a state of irrational defensiveness, such as those found in religious fundamentalists. You are so trapped in your beliefs that you see an attack on your beliefs as an attack on you.
Pride works both ways – you feel better than another, or worse than another, superior or inferior, and have to justify your own sense of low self esteem by putting down another, or raising yourself above another. A false inflation of worth, often concealing a lack of self worth. When one perceives that they are flawed or insignificant they feel they can counterbalance this by building self protective layers of contemptuousness, self importance, scorn and control to hide their inadequacies.
200 Courage
The first level of true strength. This is where you start to see life as challenging and exciting, something to rise up to, instead of being overwhelmed by. A spark of hope arises, as you taste what is beyond the 3D reality, be it through a death of a loved one, a mystic experience, or a sudden trauma. You begin to have an interest in personal growth, like seeing a counselor, skill-building, religious teachings, career advancement, education, self help. You start to see your future as an improvement upon your past.
Courage is required to work on this consciously; for courage comes down to repeatedly staking your whole reality for the chance to become more conscious and aware, no matter what the perceived outcome may be. Here you start to become empowered, with an intent of what you wish to do. You have to give it all to receive it all.
250 Neutrality
It takes some courage to become neutral and open. In neutrality you are not actively participating in life, but sitting on the fence. Here you become more open to life and the opportunities for growth that present themselves. You are more relaxed, and detached. You feel safe, and get along with all other people. You go with the flow, and are laid back. You become more balanced and easier to be around. You become more open to fun, affection, and love. You can feel content, passive, but not passionate or adventurous. You are comfortable in what you have, and ignorant of other potential possibilities. Everything is OK.
310 Willingness
Here you are still detached and relaxed, but just going with the flow is no longer good enough. You begin caring about doing a great job, and start to become more of a perfectionist in what you feel is important. You follow your heart’s desire, a deeper desire than the body/mind. You think about time management, productivity and getting organized, developing your willpower and self-discipline. You start to meditate or do yoga and spiritual practices seriously, and become dedicated about it. If you’re in school, then you are a really good student; you take your studies seriously and put in the time to excel. You are easily and enthusiastically inspired to start making bigger changes.
Good results start to come from your endeavors, and this fuels you to keep going, to continue being open and willing, to continue your practice and discipline. Talent may be there, but it is only through discipline that you will make anything of it. You will start to actively seek for answers and spiritual teachings / workshops, and practically immerse into them. You have tasted the divine, and want more.
350 Acceptance
You forgive and transcend past hurts, wounds and grievances, by being humble, open, and receiving the gifts that are now flowing to you. You start to flower, and willingly see, and accept, the soul as the driver, and the ego as the cart. Now you are able to set and achieve BIG goals ; you begin accepting total self responsibility for yourself, and your role in the world. You become independent in every way, and if one aspect of your life is not this, then you change it. You start to see the big picture of your life more clearly. You create massive changes, like switching careers, starting a new business, or getting divorced. You begin to trust deeply, let go of the past, and allow the present to unfold. You may start to create a deeper relating with a spiritual teacher, in order to attain the goal of enlightenment.
400 Wisdom
At this level you transcend the emotional lower levels and begin to perceive with the higher mind, developed through meditation. You develop Witness consciousness, and start to synthesize your experiences into a meaningful whole. You develop discernment and fluid intuitive wisdom, able to be applied in any situation, and have clear insights about the nature of reality, and your life. You start to Know clearly, rather than believe or have faith. Hawkins defines this as the level of medicine and science, where one is totally objective and able to see the bigger picture, and therefore reason, and create abstractly.
If you try to reach wisdom before mastering self-discipline (willingness) and goal-setting (acceptance), you will be too disorganized and unfocused to use your mind to its full extent. To go from this level to the next requires that you go through the dark night of the soul, where the ego separates from the soul, and where you then fully identify with Being the soul consciousness.
500 Love
One enters unconditional love through Gratitude, as you accept full responsibility for having created everything in your life. Having wisdom and clarity as the basis for further flowering. Wisdom without love is crippling; love without wisdom is disempowerment. You stabilize in love through selfless service over a period of time – for love has no self. It grinds away the reasons that the mind has for being, and establishes the soul as the ruler, and ego as the servant. Here you establish yourself in the soul consciousness in your thoughts, words, and deeds, and act them out for the benefit of others. Here we start to consider others more than we consider our own needs, although we do not exclude ourselves from this – for we also love ourselves, because now we know ourselves. To know thyself is to love thyself. We see this as the greatest wisdom, and start to experience that there is no separation.
In Love, we awaken to our true purpose. This is the level of selfless, lifetime service to humanity, as exemplified by Gandhi and Mother Teresa. You surrender and let go to God, dying into something far greater than yourself. Your intuition becomes your ruler.
540 Joy
A state of pervasive, unshakeable happiness, available at any time. Just being around people at this level makes you feel joy. At this level life is fully guided by synchronicity, intuition, and Grace. Gratitude, and sudden bursts of joy for no reason overcome you, in peals of spontaneous laughter at the seriousness of the world. Bliss arises regularly, and making love becomes a divine game. In true joy, we feel no separation between us and life itself.
